OVERVIEW
John G. Johnson Construction served as the General Contractor for the exterior renovation of the historic Jones Home for Friendless Children. The 3-story brick building designed by Sidney R. Badgley opened in October 1903 with a capacity for 75 residents. Today the building is owned by Applewood Centers, an affiliate of Wingspan Care Group, which operates a private, non-profit agency providing mental health services, social services, and education to children, adolescents, and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.
The work included window replacement, masonry repairs, and restoration of metal dentils and fasciae. The Greek Revival wood entry portico will also be reconstructed. JGJ developed the sequencing and phasing of construction to allow the project to be funded and completed over a three-year period.
Flats Construction performed all carpentry services including selective demolition, restoration of existing historic mouldings, structural framing for new porch details, and door hardware modifications.
